Apple inches past Samsung as worlds top smartphone vendor

Apple has been crowned the victor in last quarter’s smartphone wars by yet another research firm.

Among the top five global manufacturers, Apple grabbed the top spot with a market share of 23.5 percent, according to IDC. That proved a healthy gain over the 15.9 percent share from a year ago.

Research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed in a report earlier today that smartphone vendors shipped 157.8 million units in 4Q 2011 compared to 102.0 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Not surprisingly, Apple took the top position with 37 million iPhones shipped in the 4Q 2011, accounting for 23.5% of the market share in the quarter.

Cheers: The worlds happiest iPhone app

The Cheers app for iPhone is definitely a morning person. It’s the kind of app that hops out of bed, says hello to the singing bluebirds at the window, and then goes for a jog to pick up a mocha at a favorite local coffee shop.

Behringer, makes of all sorts of audio equipment, took CES 2012 by surprise with a gigantic 10,000-watt iPhone speaker dock. Dubbed the iNuke Boom, this is easily one of the largest
made, and naturally quite expensive.
AT CES 2012, Behringer showed off the iNuke Boom, possibly the world’s loudest iPhone speaker dock.

Traxxas has recently announced that their electric remote control super car XO-1 can go 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, and from zero to 100 in just 4.92 seconds using an iPhone app, making it the fastest radio controlled super car.
According to Traxxas’ website, you can unlock the 100+ mph capability using the capability Traxxas Link application that will be available in the App Store.

Cool as she is, the iPhone 4S’ new personal assistant Siri hasn’t been able to tell me in a meaningful way which iPhone 4S offers the fastest data speeds. In the end, I resorted to the usual do-it-yourself approach: a real-world test. And the results were interesting.

Samsung Surpasses Apple As World’s Top Smartphone Vendor

has been lost to the Korean company whose smartphone sales were up by more than 40 percent over the previous quarter.
According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung shipped 27.8 million smartphones in the last quarter as compared to Apple ‘s 17.1 million sold.
An important thing to note here is that Strategy Analytics has estimated shipment numbers and not actual sales. Apple on the other hand clearly mentions how many units it sold over the last quarter. (more…)
