Sony said to be talking to Apple about camera for new iPhone

Sony is in negotiations with Apple for supply of sensors for a “new iPhone ,” according to a Japan-based report.

The talks call for Sony to double the supply of camera components for a “new iPhone slated to roll out as early as next year,” according to a Wednesday report in Nikkei, Japan’s largest business daily.

iPhone 5S teardown: New Sony camera sensor inside

Among the highlights of iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone 5S is a new Sony sensor for the 5S’ boffo camera.

Apple has gone with a “new variant” of the Sony sensor, as it did in the iPhone 5, according to iFixit.

The iPhone 5 camera uses an 8-megapixel sensor from Sony, ChipWorks found.

Sony has been on a roll with its camera image sensors, and a close look by ChipWorks shows that the iPhone 5 uses one of its products for the main camera.

Sony releases Unlimited Music app for iPhone

Sony is going up against Spotify by releasing its first Music Unlimited app for iPhone offering Apple users a streaming catalog of about 15 million songs this week.

The Music Unlimited app will launch by the end of the week after debuting more than 12 months ago on Sony devices.

At CES 2012, Sony initially announced the app would be released in summer.

ChipWorks tore down the iPhone 4S to find out who made the 8-megapixel CMOS image sensor in their unit. Instead of using the normal method of using fuming sulfuric acid, they used an infrared microscope to take this picture:
