Apple filed two new lawsuits in Germany, seeking to ban 10 Samsung smartphones and 5 tablets.

Under-45 crowd: Most carry smartphones now

Smartphones keep luring more mobile users, especially those under the age of 45, according to a new survey from Nielsen.

Only 43 percent of all mobile users own a smartphone, Nielsen noted in its third-quarter survey. That figure covers the gamut of 13 to over 65. But ownership has hit more than 50 percent among some specific age groups under 45.

Dutch Court Bans The Sale Of Samsung Galaxy Smartphones In Europe

A Dutch court has found Samsung guilty of infringing an Apple patent relating to photo management, and ordered a Europe wide ban on the sale of Samsung Galaxy smartphones from October 13th. The Galaxy Tab, Samsung’s
rival, has not been named in the injunction and its sales would remain unaffected in this region.

iPhone 4 Most Reliable But Less Durable Among Smartphones

According to Square Trade, only 2.1% of iPhone 4's would fail after 12 months of usage. Note that this is an extrapolated figure based on current trends because it has not been a year yet since the iPhone 4 arrived.
This figure turns out to be the best in the industry with the iPhone 3GS and Motorola having a malfunction rate of 2.3%. In third position was HTC with a 3.7% malfunction rate in the first year of ownership. BlackBerry scored the (more…)

New Yahoo Messenger App for iPhone To Allow Video Calls To PC, Android Smartphones

David Katz, Yahoo’s VP of Mobile for the Americas region has revealed the following details:
“The free app, will be available for both iPhone and Android phones and will allow smartphone users to not only conduct video calls with each other, but with anyone that currently uses Yahoo Messenger for video calls on their PCs.”
