Presto! iBalance magic trick makes smartphones float in midair

Change the laws of physics with the cool iBalance magic trick. It's not an app.

There are lots of magic tricks you can perform with your smartphone, usually using some combination of real-world objects (like, say, cards) and an app.

For example, with Card2Phone, physical items like coins and cards seem to disappear into an iPhone , then reappear again in the real world.

It’s 10:30 p.m. and already there’s a line of two dozen or so people.

iPhone 5S A7 chip is first 64-bit processor for smartphones

Apple A7 appears to be a 64-bit first for a smartphone.

Apple ‘s ad copy above appears to be right. Apple is the first to squeeze a 64-bit processor into a consumer smartphone from a top-tier vendor.

It “is the world’s first consumer ARM based [system-on-a-chip] with 64-bit support,” wrote Anand Shimpi of chip site Anandtech.

Word games you may not know about for smartphones

Most games on my iPhone keep my interest for awhile, but then they enter a state of sitting on my home screen until I remember to revisit them. If they sit long enough, I’ll delete them knowing I can always re-download if the urge strikes me. But there is one category of games I never stop playing.

Apple is still the dominant smartphone maker, at least in the U.S., according to stats out today from NPD Group. The research firm pegged Apple ‘s U.S. market share at 29 percent for the first quarter, up 7 percent from a year ago.

Verizon reconfirms 4G LTE for all future smartphones

Verizon's isn't shy about promoting LTE.

In case there was any doubt that Verizon means LTE business, Big Red just dispelled that myth. Again.

CNET first learned that Verizon would bless all forthcoming smartphones with 4G in January at CES, where Verizon called LTE a “hard requirement.”

Apple filed two new lawsuits in Germany, seeking to ban 10 Samsung smartphones and 5 tablets.
t war with Samsung continues with two new lawsuits filed in Germany’s Dusseldorf Regional Court.
