Apple crowned top smartphone vendor of 2011 by Gartner

Apple won last year’s smartphone wars, according to data released today by Gartner.

Other reports have pointed to Samsung as the leading vendor in 2011, but the research firm placed Apple on top with a 19 percent market share overall.

Driven by the iPhone 4S, the fourth quarter was especially strong for Apple with a 23.8 percent share amid sales of 37 million iPhones. And many of those sales (more…)

Apple inches past Samsung as worlds top smartphone vendor

Apple has been crowned the victor in last quarter’s smartphone wars by yet another research firm.

Among the top five global manufacturers, Apple grabbed the top spot with a market share of 23.5 percent, according to IDC. That proved a healthy gain over the 15.9 percent share from a year ago.

Research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed in a report earlier today that smartphone vendors shipped 157.8 million units in 4Q 2011 compared to 102.0 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Not surprisingly, Apple took the top position with 37 million iPhones shipped in the 4Q 2011, accounting for 23.5% of the market share in the quarter.

Android nabbing more than half of new smartphone buyers

Apple was named the best-selling U.S. handset brand during the fourth quarter, according to a new report from the NPD Group.

However, the findings suggest that while iOS has won this battle, Android is really winning the war.

Apple tops in smartphone sales, but Samsung hot on its heels

Apple won the smartphone wars last quarter, but Samsung was close behind in second place, according to Juniper Research.

Buoyed by the iPhone 4S, Apple sold 37 million iPhones during the December quarter, giving the company a 25 percent share of the market.

More than half of Verizon smartphone sales in Q4 were iPhones

Holiday earnings reports are being posted, and Verizon’s indicates that more than half of its smartphone sales were iPhones.

This resulted in a revenue surge for its wireless division, but because of heavy subsidies, an overall decline in profits.

AT&T has just announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2011. AT&T reports that it sold a record 9.4 million smartphones in the last quarter, of which not surprisingly 7.6 million were
