Apple feels no need to offer lower cost iPhone, says analyst

Apple seems to have no desire to sell cheaper smartphones, according to a report from Citigroup technology analyst Richard Gardner.

Meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook and Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer yesterday, Citigroup analysts discussed a variety of topics with the two executives, notably the smartphone market.

iPhone 5 could see June debut at Apple confab, report says

Smartphone users chomping at the bit for the next iPhone could get a taste of it by June.

The latest rumors about Apple ‘s flagship phone suggest that the iPhone 5 could be announced in June at Apple ‘s next Worldwide Developers Conference. This latest report comes from analysts at Daiwa Securities as reported by the Chinese newspaper Commercial Times.

Steve Jobs wanted to reinvent iPhone photography, says book

Just a few months before his death, Steve Jobs was envisioning a major refinement to the iPhone camera as he met with the CEO of a company expanding the boundaries of photography.

iPhone rings up quarterly sales of at least 12 million, says analyst

Apple may have sold more than 12 million iPhones in the U.S. alone during the last three months of 2011, says Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley.

Sales heated up across all three of the phone’s U.S. carriers. Although Verizon kept pushing its new 4G LTE phones, the carrier racked up record iPhone sales of 4.2 million for the quarter, more than double the number sold in the previous quarter.

Apple to ship 30.3 million iPhones this quarter, says analyst

Apple is expected to ship as many as 30.3 million iPhones this quarter, says investment firm Susquehanna.

That estimate is up from the firm’s prior projection of 27.1 million. And for Apple ‘s full fiscal 2012 year, which started in October, the company could ship as many as 111.4 million iPhones, up from Susquehanna’s previous estimate of 104.4 million.

iPhone app sales kicking app on Android Market, says study

Despite the growth of Google’s Android Market, Apple ‘s App Store is still the top dog among mobile app stores.

Looking at different app stores this past year, research firm Distimo found that Apple ‘s iPhone app store alone generated four times the revenue seen by Android Market. Apple ‘s iPad store came in second in the sales race.

iPhone, iPad processor made by Samsung in Texas, report says

The processor running in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is being produced in Texas, a new report claims.

According to Reuters, citing sources, Samsung is producing the Apple A5 processor at a new 1.6-million-square-foot factory in Austin. The facility, which went into full production earlier this month, cost Samsung $3.6 billion. (more…)
