The iPhone 4S launch in China did not go quite as Apple had planned.

Throngs of people are a norm for new product launches at Apple , but the gaggle of scalpers trying to hustle the system caused Apple to delay sales, earning its stores an egg wash and plenty of animosity. Apple tops in smartphone sales, but Samsung hot on its heels

Apple won the smartphone wars last quarter, but Samsung was close behind in second place, according to Juniper Research.

Buoyed by the iPhone 4S, Apple sold 37 million iPhones during the December quarter, giving the company a 25 percent share of the market.

Though Samsung lost its top perch, the Korean handset maker still managed to carve out a 21.7 percent share thanks to healthy demand (more…)

Wall Street going gaga over iPhone sales, projections skyrocket

After Apple ‘s historic holiday quarter, Wall Street analysts (for the most part) are champing at the bit to raise predictions for AAPL, citing overwhelmingly strong iPhone and iPad sales last year and high expectations for new product releases this year.

More than half of Verizon smartphone sales in Q4 were iPhones

Holiday earnings reports are being posted, and Verizon’s indicates that more than half of its smartphone sales were iPhones.

This resulted in a revenue surge for its wireless division, but because of heavy subsidies, an overall decline in profits.

AT&T has just announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2011. AT&T reports that it sold a record 9.4 million smartphones in the last quarter, of which not surprisingly 7.6 million were

AT&T delivered its best-ever smartphone sales quarter — up nearly 60 percent from the year-ago period. (

Apple suspends iPhone 4S sales in China after egg-throwing attack

Apple has pulled the plug on iPhone 4S sales in mainland China after unruly crowds hurled eggs at the company’s flagship store in Beijing.

Hundreds of people had waited in line overnight to grab the new phone at the Santilun outlet (English translation) in Beijing, only to find out in the morning that Apple had decided not to open the store in light of safety issues over the huge throngs of people, (more…)

iPhone rings up quarterly sales of at least 12 million, says analyst

Apple may have sold more than 12 million iPhones in the U.S. alone during the last three months of 2011, says Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley.

Sales heated up across all three of the phone’s U.S. carriers. Although Verizon kept pushing its new 4G LTE phones, the carrier racked up record iPhone sales of 4.2 million for the quarter, more than double the number sold in the previous quarter.
