Phone 5S supply finally hits demand, says analyst

The iPhone 5S is now fully stocked at Apple Stores, says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

In his latest survey of 60 US Apple retail stores conducted on December 4, Munster found that 100 percent of iPhone 5S models were in stock at each store. That number was up from 24 percent just two weeks ago and 8 percent at the start of October.

Phone 5s hit by fingerprint sensor issues, claims report

Problems with Apple ‘s fingerprint-recognition technology might trigger a cut in shipments for the iPhone 5S, according to the Taiwan-based DigiTimes.

Citing sources, DigiTimes claims that poor production yields of the chips for both the fingerprint-recognition and LCD drivers will force Apple to trim the initial shipments of the upcoming phone, which is expected to launch this September.

iOS 7 specs versus Android 4.2, Windows Phone, BlackBerry 10

Apple completely rebuilt its iOS interface.

Apple ‘s iOS 7 comes out swinging with an overhauled design that reskins practically every element with a gleaming new interface. From what we’ve seen so far (including hands-on time with iOS 7 on an iPhone 5,) we like the latest ‘do. A lot.

While some new behaviors go along with the updated apps, iOS 7’s changes are more cosmetic and iterative than they are groundbreaking. (more…)

Apple, Samsung to offer wireless phone charging, claims report

Owners of the iPhone 5S or Galaxy S4 will be able to charge their phones wirelessly, claim the folks at DigiTimes.

Based on its usual “industry sources,” DigiTimes says the next-generation iPhone will use wireless charging technology developed by Apple . But the sources couldn’t say whether the phone would be built with the wireless charging feature or rely on an attached accessory.

It costs me around $80 per month to operate my iPhone 4S, which will soon be out of contract.

When that joyous day comes, I will very likely ditch AT&T in favor of something like Solavei, one of a growing number of companies offering cheaper, no-contract mobile service.

Apple overtakes Samsung as top U.S. mobile phone maker

Apple was the top mobile phone maker in the U.S. for the first time ever last quarter, Strategy Analytics said today.

Following the iPhone 5’s debut last September, Apple shipped an estimated 17.7 million phones in the U.S. in the fourth quarter to score a market share of 34 percent. Those numbers were a healthy rise from the same quarter in 2011 when Apple shipped 12.8 million phones and captured (more…)
