Apple hit by a patent suit over A7 chip

Apple is no stranger to patent suits, but the latest one alleges legal issues with the brains behind the new iPhone and iPad.

Filed by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) on behalf of the University of Wisconsin, the suit claims that Apple ‘s A7 chip violated its 5,781,752 patent known as “Table based data speculation circuit for parallel processing computer,” PatentlyApple reported (more…)

Nokia purges Here Maps from App Store over iOS 7 issues

iPhone and iPad users searching for Nokia’s Here Maps app in the App Store will come up empty.

Nokia removed its maps app from Apple ‘s store earlier this week seemingly over problems related to iOS 7. Trying to access the app through the App Store now returns an error that it’s no longer available. Nokia didn’t reveal the specific causes for the app’s ouster but did send (more…)

iPhone customer lines flat or slightly up over 2012 - analyst

iOS 7 is winning me over but...

When I first saw preview images of iOS 7, I knew I would hate it. The new look and layout seemed clumsy and amateurish. Now, the new OS is installed on my iPhone and iPad, and I don’t hate its new look. In fact, I like it, though that doesn’t mean our budding relationship is perfect.

The iPhone 5C is deliciously colorful, but you're giving up a lot if you don't spend the extra $100 on the 5S.

As anybody who’s ever shopped for an Apple product knows, Apple is a master at pricing products so you end up torturing yourself over whether to spend the extra money on a feature upgrade, even if you know it isn’t really worth the premium Apple is asking for it.

iOS ups lead over Android in Web traffic, says analyst

Android may be the smartphone champ, but Apple ‘s iOS is tops in mobile Web traffic, at least according to a report out today from analyst Gene Munster.

Next iPhone, iPad Mini said to face delays over new tech

The next major versions of two of Apple ‘s key products are said to face delays as the company scrambles to add new security and display technologies.

In a note to investors this morning, summarized over at Apple Insider, KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo said the next iPhone is being held up by Apple ‘s desire to include finger-scanning technology.

Apple ups lead over Android among business users

The iPhone and iPad continue to outshine Android devices among businesses both large and small, says a report from cloud storage company Egnyte.

Among the 100,000 Egnyte customers tracked for the new report, iOS has carved out an increasingly higher share while Android’s slice has dipped as of late.

iOS 6.1 wins over 22 percent of iOS users, says report

Apple ‘s iOS 6.1 has lured in a hefty number of users, at least according to data out yesterday from Onswipe.

Released on Monday, Apple ‘s latest OS update was downloaded by 21.8 percent of iOS users within just 36 hours. Among the iOS users tracked by Onswipe, 24 percent were iPhone owners and 21 percent iPad owners.

iPhone, iPad sales to surge over next two quarters, says analyst

The iPhone 5 and new iPads will trigger a surge in sales for Apple this quarter and next, says Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty.

In an investors note out today, Huberty said that key suppliers for both devices say their own revenue will be higher than anticipated for the current quarter. They’re also seeing above-average orders from Apple for next year’s first quarter. And demand could rise even higher before the year (more…)
