iPhone soaks up 75 percent of all mobile phone profits

Apple may not be the world’s leading mobile phone maker but its cut of both profits and sales puts it firmly at the top.

Though it holds only around 9 percent of the global mobile phone market, Apple raked in 75 percent of all profits across the industry last quarter, according to Asymco analyst Horace Dediu.

That left rival Samsung with 16 percent of the profit pie, RIM with 3.7 percent, HTC with 3 percent, (more…)

The disparity between Apple ‘s phone market share and profits has been known since quite some time. Asymco’s Horace Dediu illustrates this disparity via charts, taking into account the latest numbers from all phone manufacturers.

T-Mobile to improve support for unlocked iPhone users

Starting January 30, T-Mobile plans to offer additional support for the over 1 million iPhone users that have unlocked their device for use on its network. T-Mobile watchblog TmoNews was able to obtain company documents detailing the new support policies.

China nears 1B mobile connections as 3G popularity rises

It’s no surprise that China’s mobile market is highly coveted by any handset manufacturer. According to a new report from Wireless Intelligence, reported by GigaOm, China is approaching the 1 billion mark for mobile connections, largely due to the popularity of 3G, which accounts for nearly 25 percent of subscribers.
