Gmail web app for iPad features a two-pane view with the list of conversations on the left and message pane on the right as seen in the screenshot below.
iPad users will be able to check this new interface by pointing their iPad’s Safari browser to gmail.com. Just like the iPhone , iPad users will also be able to access Gmail through the native Mail app using the IMAP protocol.

Google now serving ads in iPhone Maps

Google updated AdSense this week adding support for high end smartphones like the iPhone 3GS bringing desktop styled advertising to mobile devices. The change led to Google’s insertion of advertisements, alongside search results, into the iPhone Maps app. Local iPhone map searches will now display sponsored listings in the view and list modes of the Maps app.

Apple Acquired Placebase, A Google Maps Substitute Back in July

The acquisition happened over the first week of July. Jaron Waldman, the founder and CEO of Placebase created the product to directly compete with Google Maps but with extra layers of customization and also released an API for commercial use. He was thus able to create his product PushPin, which helped to serve more complex solutions than Google Maps.

The original Yelp for iPhone was a skeleton of its online self when it first debuted. Since then, Yelp has been layering on the muscle. The improvements in Yelp for iPhone 3.0 plump the app even more, bringing both important functionality from the Web version and some mobile-friendly enhancements.
