iPhone’s GPS lets music morph as you meander

Imagine popping in your earbuds, queuing up some tunes, going for a stroll, and then listening to the music morph in response to your surroundings.

Thanks to electronic-music duo Bluebrain–along with a clutch of willing musician friends, the expertise of a software developer, and the iPhone ‘s built-in GPS system–that Brian Eno-esque fantasy is, in fact, a reality.

Washington D.C.-based brothers Ryan and Hays Holladay are continuing their push–perhaps the better word is “meander”–into a new musical realm with their recent album/iPhone app “Central Park (Listen to the Light).” The piece uses GPS to monitor a listener’s movements through New York’s famous green oasis and play different tracks keyed to specific locales–or “zones” and “pockets”–within the park.

The tracks fade into and out of one another, and the overall shape of the album is an everchanging affair, based on a given listener’s wanderings. It’s a “choose your own adventure of an album,” the duo likes to say, conjuring up memories of those children’s books that let young readers pick alternate outcomes and endings.

Starbucks Mobile Card App Lets You Pay For Coffee With Your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

Starbucks has just announced the launch of mobile payments in nearly 6,800 company-operated stores and more than 1,000 Starbucks in Target stores across the US.
It has also released Starbuck Card Mobile app, which will allow customers to pay with their

To experience mobile payment at Starbucks, customers just need to download the free Starbucks Card Mobile App for select BlackBerry smartphones, iPhone or iPod touch mobile devices. More than one-third of U.S. Starbucks customers use smartphones, of which nearly three quarters use BlackBerry smartphone or iPhone mobile devices.
In addition to the mobile payment capability, the app allows customers to manage their Starbucks Card account, check their card balance, reload their card with any major credit card (iPhone users can also use the PayPal feature), check their My Starbucks Rewards status and find a nearby Starbucks store with the store locator feature.
Customers can pay with their smartphone by holding their mobile device in front of a scanner on the countertop and scan the Starbucks Card Mobile App’s on-screen barcode to make a purchase.
Starbucks had started testing the mobile payment system back in September 2009.

‘FullScreen For Safari’ Extension Lets You Browse On Safari In FullScreen Mode

Once installed, users may simply shake their iPhone to toggle between a fullscreen mode and a normal mode. Alternately, users may also use a three-finger-tap control to enable fullscreen browsing.
Fullscreen browsing is just one of the several new features that the extension brings to the native Mobile Safari app as it also introduces a number of gesture controls. The user may swipe across the screen horizontally with two fingers to navigate between tabs. A similar vertical two finger swipe can be used to either open a new tab or close the existing one. Comcast Releases Updated iPhone App With Remote DVR Functionalities: Lets You Record On-The-Go

Comcast has now released an updated version of their application that brings remote DVR functionality to the iPhone . With Comcast Mobile App 2.0, users will also be able to remotely search and schedule new recordings, cancel recordings as well update their DVR settings. Announcing the release on the company blog, Cathy Avgiris, Senior Vice President of Communications and Data Services at Comcast writes:
“With Comcast Mobile 2.0, now available on the Apple ’s App Store SM, we’re delighted to announce that remote DVR (rDVR) capability has been added, along with some other new features (you should really check them out!). Comcast Mobile applications are part of our vision to extend the accessibility of our video, voice and data products by making them available anywhere and on any device.”
However, not all customers will have immediate access to the new functionalities. Comcast has indicated that the access to rDVR functionalities will become available as the company rolls out its new Program Guide across the country. It is expected to take ”

TigerText iPhone App Lets You Self-Destruct Your Text Messages

SmoothBoard App for Jailbroken iPhones Lets You Scroll Multiple Pages of Springboard With One Swipe

has developed a tweak that will enable iPhone users to seamlessly scroll across several pages of apps on their Springboard. Called the 'SmoothBoard', this
primarily removes the lock that is present on the Springboard scrolling by default.
Describing the iPhone app, Aaron Ash writes:
“Springboard doesn't 'lock' when scrolling. A big swipe can scroll through multiple pages instead of only one page per swipe. If you stop scrolling Springboard won't “snap” to the nearest page, it will just stay in between pages.There are a few minor bugs. (like springboard snapping to the nearest page when an app is opened) But it does not hinder any functionality, and you can still move icons around just fine.”
