With the iPhone having been around as long as it has, it’s a bit surprising no one has come up with an affordable waterproof case that lets people use the device to take pictures and shoot video while snorkeling or scuba diving.

We saw the FourPro iPhone housing appear on Kickstarter late last year, but it didn’t reach its funding goal, and it’s unclear at this point if it’s being produced. At any rate, with the Kickstarter failure, the retail price was expected to be about $700.

There’s also the LifeProof Case, which, for about $80, is supposedly waterproof to depths of up to about 6.5 feet.

Now we’re seeing the TAT7. It’s a $90 case that its makers say will let you use your iPhone 4/4S (running iOS 5) to take photos and video at depths of up to 100 feet.

Its three mechanical buttons are designed to let users click the camera’s shutter; switch between still images and video; and access the iPhone ‘s home button. That’s about it. There’s no way to swipe the sc… [Read more]

An iOS security feature that lets users share information about their location can also be a conduit for those applications to surreptitiously grab user photos, according to a new report.

The New York Times’ Bits blog today details how developers can gain access to a user’s entire photo library through the same user dialog window that requests access to a user’s current location. When users click the OK button, the report says, the developer can then copy photos–complete with GPS metadata–to a remote server, without alerting users to the fact.

Before wrapping your iPhone in tinfoil and throwing it into a fire, know that Bits says it’s “unclear” if any apps that have been published to the App Store actually exhibit this behavior. Nonetheless, it adds that an unpublished test application from an unnamed iOS developer was able to successfully upload user photos using the dialog option.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to Bits, the potential for this loophole opened up in 2010 with the introduction of Apple ‘s iOS 4.0 software. While the focus of that release was on bringing multitasking to Apple ‘s mobile operating… [Read more]

The iOS SDK has created, along with an impressive environment for apps, a great ecosystem for hardware that interfaces with iOS devices. Some notable examples include the
, the
.
A worthy addition to the list of beautifully designed products that work well with iOS devices is the TopBrewer Coffee Faucet. Although it isn’t available yet, the images and videos about the product are
impressive.
TopBrewer is a minimalist coffee machine that hides all the complicated hardware associated with coffee machines under a table top, and on the outside exists as a simple faucet with a touchscreen. The highlight of the machine, at least for iOS device users, is that Scanomat has developed an iOS app that makes the machine compatible with
,
and the iPad.
magical, innovative
simplicity,
keynotes.
The machine has quite a few features, apart from its minimalist design, that set it apart from other coffee makers:
Although the machine works well with a touchscreen, we’re very sure that Scanomat would, very soon, be bombarded with queries asking,
The machine no doubt would be expensive, and mainly targeted at high end homes and corporate offices. As
Perhaps your local coffee shop will install a team of Top Brewers and let you order your coffee drink just the way you like it from your iPhone or iPad while you stand in line to pay for the beverage.
We would take the concept a step further and say, that you order you coffee and pay via a mechanism
) without waiting in line. This would be the most frictionless self-serving-coffee-drinking experience ever.
What do you think?

Imagine popping in your earbuds, queuing up some tunes, going for a stroll, and then listening to the music morph in response to your surroundings.

Thanks to electronic-music duo Bluebrain–along with a clutch of willing musician friends, the expertise of a software developer, and the iPhone ‘s built-in GPS system–that Brian Eno-esque fantasy is, in fact, a reality.

Washington D.C.-based brothers Ryan and Hays Holladay are continuing their push–perhaps the better word is “meander”–into a new musical realm with their recent album/iPhone app “Central Park (Listen to the Light).” The piece uses GPS to monitor a listener’s movements through New York’s famous green oasis and play different tracks keyed to specific locales–or “zones” and “pockets”–within the park.

The tracks fade into and out of one another, and the overall shape of the album is an everchanging affair, based on a given listener’s wanderings. It’s a “choose your own adventure of an album,” the duo likes to say, conjuring up memories of those children’s books that let young readers pick alternate outcomes and endings.

Once upon a time, cell phones with small screens were supplemented with an invention known as the slider keyboard. This advance made texting much more pleasant for fleet-fingered phone users.

Now that touch screens have taken over the market, virtual keyboards are the norm. It’s not always fun trying to cram your digits onto a digital representation of a keyboard. With the Concord Keystone Eco Slider, you can turn your iPhone into a keyboard-toting slider phone.

This isn’t a brand spanking new idea. ThinkGeek came out with the TK-421 iPhone keyboard that swivels into position. Concord Keystone keeps things a little more compact with a straightforward sliding motion.

To experience mobile payment at Starbucks, customers just need to download the free Starbucks Card Mobile App for select BlackBerry smartphones, iPhone or iPod touch mobile devices. More than one-third of U.S. Starbucks customers use smartphones, of which nearly three quarters use BlackBerry smartphone or iPhone mobile devices.
In addition to the mobile payment capability, the app allows customers to manage their Starbucks Card account, check their card balance, reload their card with any major credit card (iPhone users can also use the PayPal feature), check their My Starbucks Rewards status and find a nearby Starbucks store with the store locator feature.
Once installed, users may simply shake their iPhone to toggle between a fullscreen mode and a normal mode. Alternately, users may also use a three-finger-tap control to enable fullscreen browsing.
Fullscreen browsing is just one of the several new features that the extension brings to the native Mobile Safari app as it also introduces a number of gesture controls. The user may swipe across the screen horizontally with two fingers to navigate between tabs. A similar vertical two finger swipe can be used to either open a new tab or close the existing one. Here is a video demo of the '
at a price of $1.49. While early reviewers of the app have pointed out to frequent crashes, the developer has just released an updated version of the
that fixes the crash problem besides introducing newer gesture controls is already available for download from Cydia.
If you try it out, let us know if you like this new Mobile Safari extension.

The new app is an extension of the Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac software that was released last week. The software application enables users to seamlessly access their Windows desktop from a Mac computer using the company's cloud delivery system. The Parallels app can be installed on the users'
,
and can be used to access either the Mac or Windows desktops.
The Parallels application opens up a wide range of new possibilities for iPhone and iPad users. As you can see from the demo video embedded below, users may access applications like Excel,PowerPointand Outlook from their iPad or iPhone . In addition to this, the Parallels app also provides a way for users to launch Flash applications on their iDevice. However, as it goes without saying, Flash-based games that will require a mouse-based navigation control may not work optimally using this system.
. But do remember that you will need to install the Parallels Desktop for Mac software on your computer for the app to work. The latest Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac is available for
at a price of $79.99.
? Do you think this will improve your productivity on the go? Tell us in the comments.
