Sprint’s financial chief today tiptoed around the prospect of a 4G LTE iPhone , the latest indication that the next version will come packed with a superfast wireless connection.

Sprint has just announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2011. Sprint reports that it sold 1.8 million iPhones in the last quarter, of which 40 percent were new customers.

Apple has posted record revenue of $46.33 billion and net quarterly profit of $13.06 billion, or $13.87 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $26.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter in Q1 2012. It is Apple ‘s highest revenue and earnings ever in a quarter.
Apple sold 37.04 million
in the quarter, up 128 percent over the year-ago quarter.
