Sprint has just announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2011. Sprint reports that it sold 1.8 million iPhones in the last quarter, of which 40 percent were new customers.

More than half of Verizon smartphone sales in Q4 were iPhones

Holiday earnings reports are being posted, and Verizon’s indicates that more than half of its smartphone sales were iPhones.

This resulted in a revenue surge for its wireless division, but because of heavy subsidies, an overall decline in profits.

Apple has posted record revenue of $46.33 billion and net quarterly profit of $13.06 billion, or $13.87 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $26.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter in Q1 2012. It is Apple ‘s highest revenue and earnings ever in a quarter.
Apple sold 37.04 million 
 in the quarter, up 128 percent over the year-ago quarter.

Sony’s backside-illuminated CMOS image sensors, newly out of the development stage, may further improve the quality of images and videos captured through smartphone cameras, and also help shrink the size of the camera module as a whole, leading to thinner devices.
