Apple investigating power-efficient OLED for mobile devices

In a recent patent application uncovered by AppleInsider, Apple is investigating the use of power-efficient organic light-emitting diode displays for its mobile devices, a technology that could help improve the battery life of iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

Apple reportedly investigating iPhone 4S battery drain

Apple engineers are looking into faster-than-expected battery drain on the company’s newest iPhone , according to a report.

The Guardian reports that some iPhone 4S owners are being contacted by Apple after complaining about lower-than-expected battery performance on the company’s support Web site. Numerous users there are saying (more…)

The most common criticism is that the phone is slow after an upgrade. There are also many complaints that the phone drains the battery quickly and becomes excessively hot. Concern about general problems such as slowness and battery life on gadgets isn't unusual, but using iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G seems to make the problems so bad that the phone is nearly unusable for some people.

Gizmodo has published details about the raid on its website.
“Last Friday night, California's Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team entered editor Jason Chen's home without him present, seizing four computers and two servers. They did so using a warrant by Judge of Superior Court of San Mateo. Nick Denton, founder of Gawker Media, had revealed that the company had paid $5,000 for what could be

Apple has spoken to local police about the incident and the investigation is believed to be headed by a computer crime task force led by the Santa Clara County district attorney's office, the source said. Apple 's Cupertino headquarters is in Santa Clara County, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Apple Actively Investigating Poor Battery Life Problem Reported in iPhone OS 3.1?

TheiPhoneBlog reports that many users who had reported issues regarding poor battery life are being contacted by AppleCare helpdesk with a list of 11 follow-up questions. The questions apparently focus on the usual suspects such as email (using Push), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and
that are frequently used.
The interesting bit is that they have also sent these users an unsigned profile as an attachment, which enables battery life logging on the iPhone .
