Despite a drop in December, Apple ‘s iOS remained the top platform for mobile browsing, according to the latest stats from NetApplications.

Throughout December, iOS’s Safari carved out a 52 percent share of the mobile market, down from 54 percent in November and 61 percent in October, but still in the lead. Google’s Android browser ended December with a 16 percent share, a dip from the prior two months.

Despite a drop in December, Apple ‘s iOS remained the top platform for mobile browsing, according to the latest stats from NetApplications.

Gartner: iPhone Loses Market Share; While Android Grabs More Than 50 Percent Of Smartphone Sales

Research firm Gartner has come out with its quarterly estimates of worldwide mobile phone sales for the third quarter of 2011.
Although global mobile device sales saw an increase of merely 5.6 percent over last year, the growth in smartphone sales was an impressive 42 percent YoY. 26 percent of the total phones sold last quarter were smartphones.
The key figure, however, was Android’s share of the total smartphone sales for the last quarter. (more…)

comScore released a report yesterday that analyzes internet consumption in light of recent cross-platform trends. It highlights
as being the top consumer of tablet-based traffic with an overwhelming 97% of the tablet market. They also account for more traffic than iPhones, highlighting how tablets are making some new market trends.

Despite the surge in demand for Android, Apple ‘s iOS still holds the lead among mobile platforms, at least according to the latest data from Net Applications.

In a survey of the mobile landscape for September, iOS hit a new record with a 54.6 percent share of the market. That’s up from 53 percent the prior month and 42 percent a year ago.

Apple ‘s iPhone may not have the largest share of the smartphone market, but it certainly grabbed a hefty piece of the profits.

According to Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi, Apple managed to take 32 percent of the overall profits for the smartphone market. Sacconaghi also said in a research note to clients that Apple achieved that percentage of profit while only accounting for 8 percent of the industry’s (more…)
