Google Translate iOS app adds support for more languages

Google has enhanced its Translate app for iPhone and iPad users with more language support and a couple of iOS 7 features.

Released on Tuesday, version 2.1 of the app adds handwriting input for 12 more languages. So you can now get translations for characters that you write in Arabic, Esperanto, Gujarati, Hebrew, Javanese, Maltese, Maori, Marathi, Persian, Punjabi, Telugu, (more…)

Learn the secrets of Google Now voice commands (infographic)

At the risk of incurring Android fanboy wrath, Google Now is a lot like Apple ‘s Siri: it responds to voice commands and can perform lots of cool and practical functions.

Of course, like Siri, it comes without an instruction manual. And, in fact, if you invoke the help command or look at Google’s own support page, you’ll get only an abbreviated list of the available voice actions.

Google Search iOS app now offers hands-free voice search

Google Search for iOS finally seems to have caught up with its Android counterpart.

Released Tuesday, version 3.1 of Google Search for iOS updates Google Now, which provides notifications, reminders, and other personalized taps on the shoulder.

How to use Google Searchs new features in iOS

Google Now for iOS isn’t quite on par with its Android counterpart, but it’s getting very close — especially after yesterday’s release of the updated Google Search app.

Google Wallet lands on the iPhone

iOS users can now add Google Wallet to their mobile devices.

Launched Thursday, the free Google Wallet for iOS serves up the same features found on its Android counterpart.

Using the app, you can send money to anyone in the US with an e-mail address. You can scan all of your loyalty cards and other offers into the app, which you can then redeem at the checkout (more…)

Google Translate iOS app can now translate your handwriting

Google Translate for iOS has just added handwriting recognition to its lineup of language skills.

Released Thursday, Google Translate version 2.0 for iOS lets you handwrite characters in the language of your choice, enabling them to be translated into your native tongue. The feature supports 49 different languages. But users with the standard US keyboard may find it most (more…)

Google refreshes Chromes look for iOS 7

Google Chrome for iOS now lets you open default links in other Google apps.

Google updated the iOS version of Chrome on Wednesday, timed with the release of iOS 7 to the general public.

Chrome for iOS 30 (download) doesn’t change much from last week’s release of Chrome for iOS 29, which included pronoun recognition in voice search, cached search results, and a data cost-savings calculator. (more…)

Google directs relevant ads to Maps

Ads in the new Google Maps apps for Android and iOS, after you tap on one.

Google recently overhauled its Maps apps for iPhones and Androids, and on Wednesday the company introduced a new way of showing “relevant” ads. They show up at the bottom of the app, where your directions appear.

Reeder app adds Feedly support after Google Readers demise

Reeder has added support for feeds from Feedly.

Users of the RSS iOS app Reeder can now add feeds from Feedly following the retirement of Google Reader.

Released on Tuesday, version 3.2 of Reeder for iOS no longer supports Google Reader since the search giant’s RSS service has kicked the bucket. But the new support for Feedly should be able to fill the gap.
