Sapphire shines when it comes to protecting future iPhones

Apple seems to have big plans for sapphire with the latest clue coming from a freshly-published patent filing.

Published on Thursday by the US Patent and Trademark Office, a patent application dubbed simply “Attachment Techniques” describes ways to securely attach sapphire to an iPhone . Apple has already used sapphire for the lens cover on the iPhone 5 and the surface of the fingerprint sensor (more…)

Apples future processors said to be made by Samsung, TSMC

Apple A7 processor: Future iPhones will use chips — such as the rumored A8 and A9 — from both Samsung and TSMC reportedly.

Both Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will make future Apple processors, according to a report from Taipei-based Digitimes.

Future iPhone could adjust its volume based on your proximity

An iPhone of the future could change its volume all on its own by detecting how near or far you are to it.

“Adjustment of acoustic properties based on proximity detection,” a patent application published today by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office describes how the iPhone ‘s promixity sensor could be used to automatically change the volume or even switch between the receiver and the speaker.

Steve Jobs involved in design of future iPhone, says report

Steve Jobs had a lot of input into the design of the upcoming the iPhone , according to a report.

The Apple co-founder and former CEO “worked closely on the redesigned phone before his death in October,” according to a report from Bloomberg, which did not identify the source.
