Apple has posted revenue of $28.27 billion and net quarterly profit of $6.62 billion, or $7.05 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.
Apple sold 17.07 million 
 in the quarter, up 21 percent over the year-ago quarter.

The quarter ending September 2010 has also been eventful for Apple as far as its earnings are concerned. After the company pipped Microsoft in terms of market capitalization to become the second largest company in the United States back in May this year, it has now been revealed that Apple has also overtaken Microsoft in terms of revenues earned. Soon after the news broke, we were informed that the next-generation iPhone would be announced on June 22nd (a Tuesday, naturally) and would be dubbed the iPhone HD (a name that has been tossed around before). From what is known officially from Apple , the launch of the next generation of iPhone is at least eight months away from now. If ChinaOnTrade’s claims about this new part is true, then there is definitely something that does not meet the eye. As folks from Gizmodo report, with the official launch date of iPhone 4 generation handset months away, it does not make logisitcal sense for Apple to have already started the production run.
