Apple ‘s next big thing could be a combination Mac OS-iOS platform that would let iDevices function as full-blown computers. At least, that’s the latest forecast from the folks at JP Morgan.

In an investors note released today, analyst Mark Moskowitz said that Apple may be hit by a weaker smartphone market suffering from customers delaying their upgrades and more vendors joining forces. But two items (more…)

iPhone, iPad most popular devices among NYC crooks

The iPhone and iPad are chart-toppers among criminals as well as consumers.

The New York Police Department recorded more than 8,000 thefts of Apple ‘s mobile products last year, The Wall Street Journal said late Sunday. That number is more than 18 percent of all the grand larcenies reported to the department in 2013. In comparison, there were only 25 grand larcenies involving Apple products (more…)

iOS 7 snags 78 percent of all Apple devices

Apple ‘s iOS 7 continues to sweep up more users.

Launched in September, the latest version of iOS is now installed on 78 percent of all iPhones, iPads, and iPods, according to Apple ‘s App Store Distribution page. That leaves 18 percent for iOS 6 and 4 percent for earlier versions. The stats were measured by the App Store during the seven-day period ending December 29.

Apple could integrate projectors directly into iOS devices

Your future iPhone or iPad could come with its own projector.

Granted to Apple on Tuesday by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, a patent called “Projected display shared workspaces” envisions a technology that would integrate small projectors into iOS devices and allow you to control a presentation through the use of gestures.

Although TeamViewer QuickSupport doesn't show you what's happening in real-time, it does provide a lot of info about the connected mobile device.

Apple eyes NFC to sync data between devices

Apple apparently still has its eye on NFC, at least as described in a freshly won patent.

Awarded Tuesday by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, an Apple patent called “System and method for simplified data transfer” describes a way of automatically transferring data from one device to another.

Verizon Cloud adds online storage for iOS devices

iPhone and iPad owners can now use Verizon Cloud to back up key information from their devices.

The cloud-based system debuted late last month for Verizon subscribers using specific Android devices. But as of yesterday, an app is now available for iOS users.

A curved battery could be in store for a future iPhone or iPad.
