It is not clear why Apple decided to scrap the feature that offered users a legitimate channel to purchase ringtones. It is worth noting that the older versions of iTunes still support this ringtone-editor functionality and will hence continue to support the creation of custom tones.

“One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple ’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.“
Meanwhile, Steve Jobs defended the new iTunes logo, which has received some criticism.
As you might have noticed, iTunes 10 comes with an all new logo, Apple has ditched the CD in the new logo.

According to Apple ’s website, the fourth generation iPod Touch will be shipped in one week if you order one now.
Folks at 9to5Mac have noticed in the FCC teardown photos that the iPod Touch 4G contains a motor that will allow it to vibrate, which will be useful for the FaceTime feature.
If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you’ll receive an invitation — along with a vibrating alert — on your iPod touch asking you to join. (more…)

Apple: No Software Update To Bring New Features To Old Apple TV

We confirmed with an Apple spokesperson that the maximum HD resolution of the Apple TV is 720p, consistent with recent rumors. Additionally, there will be no software update to bring the new features to older Apple TVs. Older Apple TVs will continue to work as they have been working up to this point, and they will continue to be able to purchase movies and TV shows even though the new Apple TV is rental-only.

Apple Inc., preparing to announce a new set-top box that delivers TV to consumers, will include movies from Netflix Inc., according to three people with knowledge of the plans.
