BBC iPlayer (Global) has just been updated to add support for iPhone and iPod touch.
BBC Worldwide has released the global iPlayer app for iPad five months back, which allows users to watch a selection of the best classic and contemporary British shows on demand, including Doctor Who, Top Gear and Gavin & Stacey.
Now available on iPhone and iPod Touch! Supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod Touch 3rd generation and above.
BBC Worldwide had announced plans to bring their global iPlayer app to iPhone and iPod touch couple of days back. Jana Bennett, President Worldwide Networks and Global BBC iPlayer had said the following in a keynote speech to the Digital TV Summit:
“This platform extension shows how Global iPlayer isn’t just about moving TV to tablet devices, it’s also about a mobile strategy – about truly getting TV everywhere in a way that it hasn’t been before. We also want the global BBC iPlayer to be truly representative of the whole gamut of British creative output, to represent everything that is great about British content – not just the Best of British TV but the Best of British Culture.”
The app is available currently available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The app is available for download for free, but users will have to $9.49 for a monthly subscription or $89.99 for yearly subscription via in-app purchase to watch the video-on-demand service.
