, we are getting more details about Verizon’s plans for iPhone customers.
Wall Street Journal claims that Verizon will be offering iPhone customers unlimited data plans.
Verizon Wireless will offer unlimited data plans when it starts selling the iPhone , a person familiar with the matter said, providing a key means of distinguishing its service from rival AT&T Inc.
If Verizon offers unlimited data plans then it will be a major selling point compared to AT&T as it had stopped offering iPhone customers unlimited data plans from January 7th, 2010. It was widely speculated that AT&T had introduced the data caps to curb the data usage just before
was launched. So it will be interesting to see if Verizon’s network can handle the surge in data traffic from new
customers. Wall Street Journal reports that Verizon executives are quite confident that their network will be able to handle iPhone users:
Verizon executives point to their network’s success handling already heavy laptop traffic and a growing number of data-guzzling Android-based smartphone users on its main, 3G network.
“Whether they are iPhones or Droids, they are smartphones,” Verizon Chief Executive Ivan G. Seidenberg said in a mid-November interview. “Regardless of the mix, we are prepared to carry more data.”
Will an unlimited data plan tempt you to switch to Verizon from AT&T? Do you think AT&T will buckle down and also start offering unlimited data plans? Tell us in the comments section below.
