iOS 4.3 Reveals New iPhone And iPad Models

Developers have already found references to “iPhone 4,1″, “iPhone 4,2″, “iPad2,1”, “iPad2,2” and “iPad2,3” in the

Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models.
For example: The original iPhone carries the model number of “iPhone 1,1″ while the
is labeled “iPhone 1,2″ and
is labeled “iPhone 2,1″ and
is labeled “iPhone 3,1″. These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices.
In case of the iPad, iProd1,1 was the original reference. But the reference of the production model is iPad1,1.
Based on this, it looks like Apple is working on two new
models (“iPhone 4,1″, “iPhone 4,2″) and also three new iPad models (“iPad2,1”, “iPad2,2” and “iPad2,3”). In case of the iPhone , the second digit probably represents a GSM iPhone and a CDMA iPhone with the launch of
earlier in the week. In the case of the iPad, the second digit represents a Wi-Fi only mode, iPad Wi-Fi+3G model that works on GSM network and iPad Wi-Fi+3G model that works on CDMA network (we’ve heard rumors that Apple may release a CDMA iPad on Verizon’s network).
