Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw claims that Apple ’s
will come with a dual-core chip to compete with RIM’s PlayBook, which is scheduled to be launched in early 2011 and Android “Honeycomb” based Motorola Tablet.
According to the analyst, the next generation iPad will get a dual-core processor featuring a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores.
Apple is on track to refresh the iPad by March and iPhone by late summer. A key component upgrade across these platforms will be a dual-core processor featuring a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores
The current generation iPad comes with Apple ’s A4 chip, which runs at 1GHz. If Kumar’s prediction of dual-core chip for iPad 2 turns out to be accurate then it would mean that the next generation
also get dual cores as they come with the same A4 chip.
. He wrote:
iPhone volumes could also be maintained at the 15 million/quarter level through next year. The launch at Verizon could support an incremental 8 million units.”
The prospects of dual-core chip for iOS-based devices is exciting as it could bring many more powerful utilities to iDevices. What do you think?
