Verizon would only get the Wi-Fi version of the iPad because its network doesn’t support the 3G chip used in the iPad. However, this is big news in itself because until now, the iPad was exclusive to AT&T. Also, it was just months ago that we were speculating about the possible launch of an
on Verizon's network.
Verizon Wireless will offer three special bundles, which includes an iPad and and a Verizon Mi-Fi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.
$629.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 16GB + Mi-Fi
$729.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 32GB + Mi-Fi and
$829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB + Mi-Fi.
Verizon also has a monthly access plan that offers 1GB worth of data for $20 a month.
As for AT&T, it will continue to sell the Wi-Fi + 3G version with the standard no-commitment250MB and 2GB data plans for $15 and $25 per month respectively.
The 3G iPad's (unavailable on Verizon) would be sold for $629, $729, and $829 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions respectively. Note that AT&T 3G subscribers also get unlimited access to over 23,000 Wi-Fi hotspots set up in the US.
Apple had been gradually increasing the availability of its tablet to a wider set of consumers of late. It was just days ago that retailers like Target and Walmart have started stocking the iPads. With the addition of Verizon of AT&T stores, the iPad is now available in over 4000 more locations than it was until now.
Are you planning to buy an iPad? Would you prefer buy it from Verizon or AT&T?
