According to anonymous sources quoted in the newspaper, one of the major point of discussion was about taking on Apple in the mobile segment where the company wielded significant control. The proposed solutions are noted to have ranged from a close partnership between the two companies to even a possible merger of the two technology giants.

This is not the first time we have heard rumors about a possible merger between Microsoft and Adobe. Similar proposals were made earlier in the decade but were subsequently dropped after there were questions raised about potential antitrust litigations. Microsoft had also taken on competition from Adobe Flash with the launch of Silverlight in 2007. The market dynamics has however changed considerably in recent times with the rising prominence of Google and Apple and consequently Microsoft could benefit from such a merger.
