in the past. However, it is also believed that Apple may open up the platform for third party apps soon. In an interview to
earlier this month, Steve Jobs is reported to have commented that the
for Apple TV could be coming soon.
“He tells Bloomberg Businessweek that when the time is right, Apple could open an App Store for the TV that could do for television sets what all those apps have done for the iPhone . An example of this is the way AirPlay works. iOS 4.2 is capable of letting any iOS-based video playback controller to stream audio and video content to Apple TV. This would mean that users can stream content from the likes of YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus and ComedyCentral over AirPlay on Apple TV. Though the streaming presently appears to be limited to apps that make use of the built-in iOS video playback controller, the vast potential of the feature can still be realized.
It will be interesting to see when Apple opens up the Apple TV platform to developers. Do you see a revolution coming to the television space? Tell us what you think in the comments.
