Asked if the iPad could evolve into the TV of tomorrow, Jobs shrugs and says, “That's how I do most of my TV watching today.””
It is worth noting that Apple started allowing third party apps on the iPhone nearly a year after launch and so a similar strategy for Apple TV may not be entirely ruled out. One of Apple 's focus areas moving towards the future appears to be in expanding into the living room. Though Steve Jobs continues to talk about Apple TV as a hobby, there are indications that Apple sees a future where entertainment is consumed primarily over the internet using its successful
An example of this is the way AirPlay works. iOS 4.2 is capable of letting any iOS-based video playback controller to stream audio and video content to Apple TV. This would mean that users can stream content from the likes of YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus and ComedyCentral over AirPlay on Apple TV. Though the streaming presently appears to be limited to apps that make use of the built-in iOS video playback controller, the vast potential of the feature can still be realized.
