With cost of camera sensors having come down in the past few months, it now appears that Apple may finally include a 2-megapixel camera in the next generation iPod Touch. Vietnamese website
has published a series of pictures and video that showcase a leaked prototype of the next generation iPod Touch.
“. This may possibly indicate that this is a 64GB prototype.
The sticker also mentions the camera part number as OV2665-6s. This is a reference to the part manufacturer, Omnivision Technologies. You may note that this is the same company that Apple is currently working with for supply of 3.2 megapixel cameras for iPhone 3GS.
The camera on the iPod Touch is at the top center location on the backside of the device.
Other prominent suppliers mentioned on the sticker are Foxconn (Btm Housing), Wintek (“Grape”) and Samsung (NAND chips).
The serial number of the device is identical to those on the September 2009 models. It is not clear if this is one of the older prototypes from last year or if this is indeed a prototype of an upcoming iPod Touch model.
leaked last week, the iPod Touch prototype runs a diagnostic software instead of iPhone OS.
This is the third instance of a Vietnamese website leaking pictures and videos of Apple devices in the past one week. Recently,
had published videos of an upcoming version of iPhone 4G. While we are still skeptical about the authenticity of these images, we do hope that the next generation iPod Touch comes with a camera.
