A few of our readers have written in telling us that they have been noticing much faster 3G speeds on their network of late. Folks at
have also confirmed it today noting that almost all the mails have come from readers in the six cities where AT&T has completed their upgrade – Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami.
As readers would know, AT&T had
last year to rollout the HSPA 7.2 3G wireless technology across all its cell sites in the USA in order to accomodate increasing data traffic and also to address the subsequent problems with network connectivity. The newly added capacity should offer the users a theoretical maximum speed of close to 7.2 Mbps which is double the currently offered speed of 3.6 Mbps. The network upgradation process was carried out initially in the aforementioned six cities and the project across the country is expected to be completed by the end of this year or early 2011.
report, though the speed has apparently increased by a significant margin, it is still not close to the advertised 7.2 Mbps. We are curious to know from our readers in these six cities, if they're observing much faster 3G speeds. You may test your network speed from
and let us know in the comments below.
