iPhone App Downloads from iPod Touch Indicates Record Holiday Sales

As TechCrunch notes, the reason behind this jump could be because iPod Touch makes for a better Christmas gift than an iPhone and hence it is likely that it was a more popular gift to teenagers and pre-teens this year. Also considering previously known data that suggest that teenagers tend to download more iPhone apps than adults do, the sudden spike in downloads of iPhone apps from iPod Touches seems to be on expected lines.
Flurry's report shows other interesting results as well. From the looks of it, Verizon's
against AT&T and Apple did not get them too far as the report shows that the App Store downloads grew 51% in the past one month despite the large base it has already built. Compare this with Android's 22% growth in December which is pretty low considering that these numbers are on a lower base. In absolute terms,
downloads were 13 times more than downloads from the Android marketplace. Apparently, only 49% of Android marketplace downloads were from
.
So the data indicates that Android has failed to counter iPhone 's growth in the app economy so far. But with
launching in about a week's time from now, it will be interesting to see how the two platforms fare against each other in the next quarter. As for now, the iPhone platform is a clear winner and it is a matter of time before the Quarterly results will attest the fact.
What's your take?
