called iDroid developed by Swavv apps. While the exact reason behind the rejection is not clear, it is pretty obvious that the decision to
was because of the name and utility (or the lack of it) behind the iPhone app.
that was marketed by Verizon against the iPhone . However, there has not been any particular violation that the app can be singled out for except probably violating the trademark of Motorola Droid.
Did this iPhone app deserve a ban? Considering that the iPhone app did not add any particular value to the iPhone , it probably makes no difference. The iPhone app developers realized it too and possibly developed this app only as a clever marketing ploy. While we cannot be sure on that, it does raise some interesting questions on where the line needs to be drawn when it comes to iPhone apps that advertise products. But does use of trademarked brand names or logos and a possible bias towards competitors in the comparisons be reasons for a ban? That could be draconian.
What do you think? Is Apple justified in banning applications that advertise competitor products? Do let us know of any iPhone apps that you think are on the
despite promoting a rival product.
