While the original software only let the users to export the EyeTV recordings on to the iPhone , the newly released EyeTV iPhone app lets iPhone users watch live TV streaming on their iPhones. In order to use Elgato's EyeTV app on your iPhone , you must first register your Mac to its free My EyeTV service. Once this is done, you may tap into the live streaming service on the move. EyeTV app's Bonjour technology tracks for EyeTV-packing maps on the network and connects to it thus streaming TV live.
There was an interesting catch though. Possibly as a means to get past the AT&T police at the Apple App Store, the
claims that the live streaming can only happen via Wi-Fi networks. As a result, when you try connecting it via 3G, the app displays an error message – “
Interestingly, if you tapped on the OK button on the error pop-up, you were made to believe that the app only works on Wi-Fi and you don't get to connect to the 3G network. However, if you tapped on the error text instead, the error pop-screen disappears and the EyeTV iPhone app streams live TV over your 3G network.
. Elgato Systems has issued the following statement:
“Some test code that enabled live TV streaming over the cellular network was accidentally left in the the EyeTV App. Apple requested that we remove the code since their agreement with AT&T does not allow redirecting TV signals over the cellular network. The code was removed and a 1.0.1 version of the EyeTV app was submitted. We expect EyeTV to return to the App Store when the 1.0.1 version is approved.”
If you were lucky enough to download EyeTV v1.0 then please share your experience in the comments section below.
