iPhone now supports accessory app downloads

According to iLounge, Apple has added a feature to the iPhone OS, as well as to Made-for-iPod and Works-with-iPhone certified devices, to include automatic download prompts when connecting accessories supported by iPhone apps. If you connect one of these accessories to you iPhone or iPod Touch, an alert box warns you about the missing application and asks for permission to install it.

According to a new study I came across at AppleInsider, Apple ‘s iPhone OS has 40 percent of the Web market share. This study doesn’t specifically reflect iPhone or iPod Touch sales, rather it shows that the iPhone OS dominates around the globe when it comes to mobile handset Web browsing. Elgato releases EyeTV for the iPhone

Elgato has released EyeTV for iPhone and iPod Touch (iTunes link), a new, $4.99 app that connects to any Mac running the latest version of Elgato’s EyeTV 3.2 software. The app allows EyeTV users to view TV recordings and live TV from a remote location with one limitation: a Wi-Fi connection is required for viewing live TV. (Restrictions on the app by Apple and AT&T prevent live streaming via 3G.)

According to the report, the issue was first taken up with AT&T, and he was told that things were perfect from their end and it was probably a problem with his handset. The Apple Genius Bar at the SoHo Apple retail store who later tested his iPhone to find a drop call rate of 22% told him that this was pretty above average since the average drop call rate in the New York City area was close to 30%. Voice over Internet Protocol service provider Vonage on Monday announced that it has launched its first mobile apps for the iPhone , iPod Touch, and BlackBerry devices.

Dubbed Vonage Mobile, the company’s free VoIP app enables users to place international calls from their mobile devices. iPod Touch owners can do so by placing calls through Wi-Fi. (more…)
